Abbreviations & Meaning

D1              Division I

A rank used to specify the monetary size of an athletics program at a university. This division does give athletic scholarships.

D2               Division II

A rank used to specify the monetary size of an athletics program at a university. This division does give athletic scholarships.

D3               Division III

A rank used to specify the monetary size of an athletics program at a university. This division does not give athletic scholarships.

GIA             Grant-in Aid

The document you sign that shows the amount of your athletic scholarship.

NCAA          National Collegiate Athletic Association

The organization in charge of all college athletics. They make all rules, regulations, and have the authority to drug test any athlete.

NLI              National Letter of Intent

The document you sign to commit to playing a sport for a university.
